How to Block Negative Energy (Part 2)

I started to write the original post on How to Block Negative Energy (Part 1) ages ago, and then felt so drained by the time I was finished that I conveniently forgot to continue it at some point. I get a lot of traffic coming in from that type of search, however, so I feel badly about not having got round to part two until now. My apologies, and I hope some of you find this helpful. Mea culpa!

The Heart Chakra

It's important to understand that when Empaths and other sensitive types of people absorb negative energy from external sources, this is the part of you that soaks it up. Think of it as an emotional sponge, and then realize that it's not actually supposed to function that way. No, indeed -- your heart chakra is meant for what you'd think it's meant for... love, happiness and good vibrations (apologies for the cheesy terminology). Your heart chakra was never meant to burden you with other people's crap or with misaligned energies floating around you; and this is precisely what happens to those who've not yet learned how to "turn it off".

You don't need to be New Agey to 'turn it off'

Some people get uncomfortable at the mention of chakras and have no interest in learning anything about them. That's fine -- you don't need to know anything about them to make this work, other than where the heart chakra is. (Which, if you haven't guessed, is pretty much where the heart is, give or take a bit.) Nor do you need to be an Empath or some other type of sensitive soul to make use of this advice; everyone absorbs negative energy (to some degree) through their heart chakras, it just affects sensitive people more quickly and more severely.

You have full control over your heart chakra.

I used to feel overwhelmed by external sources of negative energy and I've had success with the methods I mentioned in Part 1. But those methods of blocking the bad stuff out tend to have a short half-life. If you're willing to repeat those steps on a daily basis, this probably won't make a big difference to you -- but I eventually grew tired of treating the symptoms and decided to try for a cure. The first step in doing this was understanding that I had full control over my heart chakra, and that it was/is going to behave in whichever manner I unconsciously or consciously direct it. Since my unconscious mind hadn't done the best of jobs fielding the bad juju, I realized that my conscious mind was going to have to step in and make some rules.

One of the few times when the mind should rule the heart.

You can do whatever you believe you can do. Once I realized that I could control my heart chakra at will, I issued it a firm directive, and I repeated that directive until I felt the results. How long was that? In my case, it took less than a day to sort my heart chakra out -- but please realize that your results may vary. I was already very much a believer in the power of belief, so this was a logical thing for me to do. If you're less certain of yourself, you may need to fake it til you make it a bit. But don't worry, it won't be too difficult; this is innate knowledge.

What I did: (And you can word this any way you choose.)

I used an affirmation of sorts. I say "of sorts" because it was more of a command, than anything else, but for those with as yet slightly wavering beliefs, an affirmation will do the trick just as easily. I chose my words carefully, and I'll explain why in a moment. First, let me tell you what I said, "I command my heart chakra to deflect all negative energies which I do not need to experience." Now let me explain the wording: You don't want to command your heart chakra to close, as that would shut out the good with the bad. You don't want to command your heart chakra to reflect anything, either, as you might unwittingly direct it to someone who has nothing to do with what you're receiving. Nor do you want to deflect every bit of negative energy, as some of this is necessary for growth -- you want to be able to empathize with those you need to empathize with, and you also want to be able to sense what's going on around you when necessary.

What you don't want, is to randomly absorb negative crap that has nothing to do with you. For example, you don't want to pick up the rage the 5 year old in the mall is feeling as she stomps her feet in an effort to get that ice cream cone. Neither do you want absorb the despair of some random passerby with whom you will never have any type of contact. What you do want, is to keep your senses sharp, without being flooded with things that have nothing to do with you. At the same time, you don't want to keep emotions at bay if they're meant to help you grow -- and before you ask how you'll know the difference, that's the job of your Higher Self and not something you need to worry about.

Welcome to the new you!

Yes, it really is that simple; your chakras are yours to command. Also, for those who want to fully retain your ability to sense/feel everything, but simply wish to prevent absorbing it directly, there is one more method I'll address in a future post. In the meantime, master this and give yourself a chance to acclimate to the new you. (And if you're an Empath, it will feel like a new you once you realize that most of those crazy emotions you've felt for so long weren't actually yours.) Once you've got this part down, you'll be ready to try the next method.

Past Lives: Journey of Souls

I've always believed in reincarnation. Always; it's just something I've always known innately. Over the years I've read numerous books from various metaphysical authors, therapists, etc., who reaffirmed the beliefs I've always held as truth. Some of these books were fabulous, some not so much. But there has always been a favorite of mine, which was published around the time I was graduating from high school: Dr. Michael Newton's Journey of Souls. This book is special for one reason more than any other -- it's written by someone who used to be a total nonbeliever. Michael Newton, PhD., was a classically trained therapist who used hypnosis to treat his patients. When asked if he could use his skills to take patients back to previous lives, he would always say no; he didn't believe in that kind of thing, and certainly didn't have any interest in trying. Well...eventually that changed, and the man set about on one fantastically inspirational journey. His books Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls are two books I recommend wholeheartedly to anyone and everyone. He's also written another book I hope to read in the future, called Life Between Lives.

But don't take my word for it!

There is something so incredibly warm, honest and comforting about how simply he states what he's learned about the transitioning of souls. You can see for yourself by watching the following clips, which are from an interview of Michael Newton discussing how he came to be the celebrated past-life-regressionist he now is, and what his clients have told him. This information will provide a wealth of comfort for those who are still unsure as to what happens after our physical bodies die. Grab a cup of tea, sit down and enjoy these clips! Christian, Jewish, Muslim (etc.) Empaths

I get a lot of email from people asking me if they can still be Empaths whilst being a Christian, Jew, Muslim or whatever. The question never fails to baffle me. Being an Empath is simply being a person who happens to feel the feelings of those around them (among other things) -- it's got nothing to do with religion.

You choose your religion -- you don't choose to be an Empath.

You're born with empathic abilities, you don't sign up for them when you're old enough to understand what they are and how they will impact your life. Quite the opposite with religion; while you may be ushered into the religion of your parents' choosing, you do have the option of changing it once you're old enough to understand what you're being taught to believe. Therefore, religion is a purely external influence, whereas Empathic abilities are, more or less, biological.

There is no conflict between religion and the Empath.

There is no religion on Earth which says it's a sin to feel compassion for your fellow man or animal. Indeed, most religions encourage precisely that. Nor is there any conflict when it comes to being compelled to help them in any way you can. Show me a religion which denounces such things and I will show you a religion you need to avoid.

There is nothing paranormal about being an Empath.

There really isn't. Being an Empath does not make you a psychic, a clairsentient, a clairaudient, or anything else your church might be (unnecessarily) afraid of. Being an Empath is simply you having a particularly sensitive heart chakra. It's not really a big deal -- everyone's got one. It's just that yours is more receptive than those of other people.

There is nothing Satanic, or otherwise evil, about being an Empath.

I don't believe in Satan, per se, but I'm fully familiar with the religious perspective that does. Satan, to the best of my knowledge, wouldn't encourage you to reach out to a man who is hurting inside. Nor would he demand that you feel endless compassion for others. So what on Earth would Satan get out of the Empathic plight? I'm not going to use this post to share my views on religion, as it's not all that relevant to the topic. But I will say this: if you're an Empath who is having trouble reconciling being such with your religious views, I suggest you take a moment to listen to your heart -- you already have the answer, and you wouldn't have found this information if you weren't meant to read it.
